December 26   Outsourcing    I notice since my interaction with manufacturing companies in the mid 1990s, more and more non core activities ie Canteen, Housekeeping, Health Clinic were being outsourced, for improving efficiency. This outsource practice might be a bit "infectious", as it is spreading beyond businesses to adult personal life, ie raising kids, housekeeping etc.  And it is even coming to younger and younger age .........  I heard that there are students who outsource sitting examination, attending interviews, and doing assignments.  And now, outsourcing becomes cheap and ever more convenient, with the arrival of various AI platforms, including many free ones. While in businesses, the clarity of core activity/activities may be more easily defined, we should ask what are the cores for parenting, student life, or even just being human.  Essential Life Skills: To live life well, core competencies involve strong emotional regulation (sel...
December 19, 2025   Longevity ?  Health ?  Longevity and Health?  (I suppose I want both, but if I can only get one, I want health. Do you think I choose wisely?)  But---- How do we define health?   How do experts define health?    Who are the experts we should recognize as our experts that we source our data or definition or opinion from?    Should I write more about the above?  Well, first, I need time to think, clarify my 'stormy' brain.  Maybe yon wonder why I go into this pretty philosophical area, when it is joyful, holiday, year end season of celebrative mood. That is a good question.  I read an article in the Times of India , on  Anti-aging influencer Bryan Johnson targets to live till 2140 (Another 115 years from now, when he will be 163 years old, breaking through the 120 years barrier of longevity).   I want to live well (Healthy), not just live long.  But it is not easy to define livi...

Wellness 101

December 12, 2025   Today Penang Adventist Hospital is starting its 101 year journey!   Wow, 101 years is a pretty long time.  I do have a wellness mentor who is older than my hospital, he will be 102 years old in 5 days time.      Dr John Scharffenberg was my teacher on Wellness/Preventative Health in 1997.  Here are his pointers he says that are keeping him as healthy as he is now in a long YouTube (52min): How To Live to 102 - Just Ask Dr. John Scharffenberg Exercise, most important, physically demanding activities, (with care not to injure our joints) Don't eat in between meal If you want the whole formula, watch the above video. So, think about how you may adopt the above habits to stay healthy, to enjoy life! Try it for 1-3 months.
December 5, 2025 What is the best exercise?  I was often asked.  My most often simple answer is:  The exercise you are willing to do, and do it regularly. What is the best diet?   You bet I can't answer this question the same way I answer the 1st question. Diet is a whole lot more complex.  So, I approach this question from the opposite angle, what are the bad diet we should really avoid, avoid from young?     LCD or Low-Carbo Diet is a commonly promoted diet, that is popular.  Yes, it is my opinion that LCD is one of the diet we should really avoid, especially if the carbo is replaced with animal protein AKA meat.     This is a technical, medical research paper write up. In simple common language, it means, LCD in young adults put them at higher risk of getting heart disease in their middle age, and also progression of blockage is higher. Therefore, those who use LCD, esp LCD with non plant protein for weight management...
