Why Do We Make New Year's Resolutions?

When was the last time you made new year resolution/s?  2025?  2015? 2005? 1995?

How did it go?

Well, usually, mine did not go very well.

And if you look back, you might find it similar, by end of January, most new year resolutions will be gone out of the window. 😅🫣

Should we make new year resolution?

Jan 4 - Making decision is good, it's like setting the WAZE/Google Map the direction you intend to go.  But it is only the 1st step. What needs to follow is to drive/ride toward the destination (goal/resolution).  In current age, I am very grateful there exists many APP to give us a way of Navigating toward the goal, depending on what kind of goal we set. I feel to start it off, we must understand ourselves well, what work best to keep us on that track/path, what help us to stay on the "WAZE/Google Map" of our goal.  At times, it might be more than just the APP, we might need a buddy to give us a nudge every now and then (a structured schedule is even better).  Or if you find a coach is better.

My personal journey - over the years, while at times I set new year, if I am impressed to set a new direction in life, I don't wait till Jan 1 of a year to start.  I choose a date and I put the matter into my daily prayer list (as my daily reminder, asking SOMEONE bigger than me for Help), and continue to find way to fine tune the path toward that destination. (I can imagine my 1st GARMIN saying recalculating every time I hit a 'wall', and I evaluate that the destination is still a worthwhile goal I want to pursue. So, I stay on course, follow the re calculated course, and move on toward the destination - still the same destination, only a new route - new method).

Do you have any suggestion for me?

It is worthwhile to make resolutions:  ie learn a new skill, or establish an exercise program, it is also very important to set a system to make it easier to reach the goal.

  1. Yes, we should. But keep it to 3 at most and make them simple and achievable, not overly ambitious 🤣🤣

Carcinogen Classification. Stuff to avoid

August 22, 2025   We are afraid of dying slowly, ie Dementia, and Cancers.  If there is a way to prevent these, would you be interested?  Many would go for getting to the root causes, and manage exposure to these.  I want to write about cancer causing agents 1st. International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has evaluated >1000 agents and classified them into classes according to likelihood (strength of evidence) as below:       Here is a short YouTube video explaining this table  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP60nNXqNOo   This time, FOR HEALTH, I bring up about WHAT TO AVOID. to stay in good health (the negatives).  Next week, I should talk about what to GET INTO OUR BODY, or DO to stay in good health (the positives). GROUP 1 means "confirmed" cancer causing agents. Here is the link to the list  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IARC_group_1  as of 2024. Here are some we are familiar with: Viruses - HIV, HPV, He...

ANTIBIOTIC

November 21, 2025   Antibiotic was a great discovery about 100 years ago. It saved many lives over the past century, likely someone closed to you have been protected by it, or even you, and me.     However, situation becomes more complex when it is overused.  Here is why: Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) happens when germs—like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites—stop responding to the medicines used to kill them. When this happens, antibiotics and other treatments no longer work well. This makes infections harder or sometimes impossible to treat, which can lead to more people getting sick, more severe illness, and more deaths. World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) is a worldwide event held every year from 18 to 24 November . Its goal is to help people understand what AMR is and why it is a serious problem, and to encourage countries and communities to take action. It is one of the official health campaigns of the World Health Organization (WHO). The th...
