Cholesterol -

I took the above from a professional talk for doctors (At about 19 min 40 sec), pointing to the Level of LDL cholesterol, at which no atherosclerosis exists.

Well, the level is really out of the world

(<60 mg/dl = <1.6 mmol/L)

Anyway, the point the speaker tried to make is that cholesterol is a very important factor in heart disease, including sudden cardiac death.  We are wise to try to bring down cholesterol, at whatever age we are, earlier better.

The so called Natural Cholesterol level in human beings is far lower from the "Normal Spec" given in the lab report (Most lab gives <2.6 mmol/L or 100mg/dl; at my clinic we use 3.4 mmol/L or 130 mg/dl). And this has caused confusion in the understanding of how cholesterol level correlate with cardiovascular diseases (atherosclerosis - hardening of the arterial wall, the material causing the stiffening is definitely cholesterol).  However, a few other factors do increase/enhance the likelihood - blood pressure, blood sugar, smoking, physical inactivity (Modifiable factors - things we are able to improve), age, male gender, genetic (Unmodifiable factors).

So, the bottom line, it is better to get cholesterol lower, the closer to the Natural level the better.

Some of you might be interested whether I did get Flu eventually, me being unable to stay away from my wife, and Flu being very infectious.  Well, I must confess I did not miss any work day this past 1 week. However, I did feel a bit unwell for 2 days.

FLU SHOT works, at least this year, for me.
