8 STEPS TO REDUCE HEART ATTACK RISK IMMEDIATELY

  1. Reduce/avoid oily/creamy food
  2. Avoid overeating; eat to 80% full only
  3. Drink more plain water, reduce other beverages
  4. Calm yourself down; do relaxation exercises such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation and the likes
  5. Avoid undue physical stress/strain, esp competitive games
  6. Supplement Omega3/Fish oil/Flaxseed oil
  7. Take a baby aspirin/Casprin/Cardiprin a day, if you are not allergic to aspirin, and do not have gastric problem
  8. Take cholesterol lowering medication (of course you ought to consult your doctor about this)

Warning symptom of Heart ATTACK: Angina

Most patients with angina complain of chest discomfort rather than actual pain: the discomfort is usually described as a pressure, heaviness, tightness, squeezing, burning, or choking sensation. Apart from chest discomfort, anginal pains may also be experienced in the epigastrium (upper central abdomen), back, neck, jaw, or shoulders, following skin dermatomes(single nerve supply).

Typical locations for radiation of pain are arms (often inner left arm, even forearm and hand/little finger), shoulders, and neck into the jaw. Angina is typically precipitated by exertion or emotional stress. It is exacerbated by having a full stomach and by cold temperatures. Pain/pressure may be accompanied by breathlessness, sweating and nausea in some cases. It usually lasts for about 3 to 5 minutes, and is relieved by rest or specific anti-angina medication. Chest pain lasting only a few seconds is normally not angina.

Myocardial ischemia comes about when the myocardia (the heart muscles) receive insufficient blood and oxygen to function normally either because of increased oxygen demand by the heart muscle or by decreased supply to the heart muscle. This inadequate blood flow and the resulting reduced delivery of oxygen and nutrients, is directly correlated to blocked or narrowed blood vessels.
Some experience "autonomic symptoms" (related to increased activity of the autonomic nervous system) such as nausea, vomiting and pale.
The above sensations/symptoms can be present in other diseases, eg gastric ulcer, esophageal reflux; generally, the most serious is heart attack. So if you suspect you are experiencing the above described symptoms, it is wise for you to rest; if you have aspirin, to take one immediately (chew before swallow for faster action).

If the symptoms persist longer than 5 min, it is better to get to a hospital soonest possible. Get someone to drive you, or call for ambulance.  A heart attack may be reversed if intervention is done within 4 hours of the onset - reperfusion, usually by per cutaneous angioplasty(Catheter treaded through artery of wrist or thigh, all the way up to heart arteries to reopen the blockages).

Carcinogen Classification. Stuff to avoid

August 22, 2025   We are afraid of dying slowly, ie Dementia, and Cancers.  If there is a way to prevent these, would you be interested?  Many would go for getting to the root causes, and manage exposure to these.  I want to write about cancer causing agents 1st. International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has evaluated >1000 agents and classified them into classes according to likelihood (strength of evidence) as below:       Here is a short YouTube video explaining this table  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP60nNXqNOo   This time, FOR HEALTH, I bring up about WHAT TO AVOID. to stay in good health (the negatives).  Next week, I should talk about what to GET INTO OUR BODY, or DO to stay in good health (the positives). GROUP 1 means "confirmed" cancer causing agents. Here is the link to the list  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IARC_group_1  as of 2024. Here are some we are familiar with: Viruses - HIV, HPV, He...

ANTIBIOTIC

November 21, 2025   Antibiotic was a great discovery about 100 years ago. It saved many lives over the past century, likely someone closed to you have been protected by it, or even you, and me.     However, situation becomes more complex when it is overused.  Here is why: Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) happens when germs—like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites—stop responding to the medicines used to kill them. When this happens, antibiotics and other treatments no longer work well. This makes infections harder or sometimes impossible to treat, which can lead to more people getting sick, more severe illness, and more deaths. World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) is a worldwide event held every year from 18 to 24 November . Its goal is to help people understand what AMR is and why it is a serious problem, and to encourage countries and communities to take action. It is one of the official health campaigns of the World Health Organization (WHO). The th...
